Following the implementation of ETIAS, citizens of eligible countries must be granted an ETIAS visa waiver before they can enter any of the Schengen countries. The online application lasts only a few minutes. The ETIAS visa waiver allows authorised visitors to enter the Schengen area for short stays of up to 90 days for tourism, transit or business. Travelers can move freely between Schengen countries, as there are no difficult internal borders within the area. The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) allows most citizens or nationals of participating countries* to travel to the United States for stays of 90 days or less without a visa, in order to make a tourist or business trip. Travelers must have a valid Esta (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) prior to travel and meet all the requirements set out below. Travellers other than the EU/EEA/Switzerland/UK and family members with the right to free movement) travel to the Schengen area for an initial period of 30 days (the possible extension of this period being assessed on the basis of other developments). However, third-country nationals holding a long-term visa or residence permit or family members of EU/EEA/Swiss/British nationals shall be exempt from this restriction.
